Project Components
Stroke-Free Cohort

To estimate the incidence and incidence rates of first-ever stroke among risk factors (individually and combined) in Karnataka.
The goal is to develop a specific risk predictability calculator for development of stroke over specific time periods.
.
(until an individual develops a stroke)
- Participants: all stroke-free individuals above 30 years of age within study area
- Location: Byrasandra, Pattabhiramanagara (Bengaluru), and Mulabagilu taluka (Kolar)
- Duration: 4 years
Stroke-cohort

To estimate short- and long-term survival, disability and quality of life of first-ever stroke patients in Karnataka.
identify and estimate.
(from development of stroke onset to recovery/death, disability and quality of life)
- Participants: all first ever stroke patients (both ischemic and hemorrhagic) within study area
- Location: Byrasandra, Pattabhiramanagara (Bengaluru), and Mulabagilu taluka (Kolar)
- Duration: 4 years
CASCADE Model

This is a comprehensive model to improve stroke care, including preparedness, care pathways, and management practices. The goal is to improve survival, disability, and quality of life for stroke patients. .
- Participants: all first ever stroke patients (both ischemic and hemorrhagic) attending the emergency rooms of the study hospitals and/or admitted within these study hospitals.
- Location: NIMHANS, R L Jalappa, Jayanagar General hospital, ESI hospital, District hospital Kolara, C V Raman hospital.
- Duration: 4 years
Data Collection
Comprehensive Data Collection
The study involves a thorough house-to-house survey to gather data on various health factors, including blood samples, physical measurements, and lifestyle habits.
Assessing Lifestyle Factors
The survey also recorded participants' height, weight, smoking status, and alcohol consumption, allowing the researchers to evaluate the potential impact of these lifestyle factors on health risks.
Detailed Blood Analysis
Participants' blood samples are analyzed to measure HbA1C and cholesterol levels, including HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, providing valuable insights for the study.
